2015 'Pinecrest Vineyard' Chardonnay
Nesting Place: Pinecrest Vineyard R.I.P
This highly vaunted vineyard site is unfortunately no longer in existence, in a tragic turn of events this piece of Okanagan wine history has been torn of the soil. Planted in 1974, making Pinecrest some of the oldest Chardonnay plantings within this ethereal landscape. This immaculate 4 acre block of Chardonnay was planted & managed by the hands of an enigmatic, boisterous gentleman named Franco & his wife. Rooted in deep layers of Clay & Sand, boasting high elevation/Northern aspect tucked the switchbacks of Glenrosa in Westbank. A combination of soil structure & positioning creates an incredible environment for balanced ripeness & acidity. After the tragic passing of Franco's wife, the property was sold & has since been re-developed. What is life, If not marked by tragic circumstance on occasion?
The Wine & Moment in Time:
A truly sentimental incarnation of Chardonnay born of Pinecrest, this marks the 2nd and final vintage off the site. With the heaviest of hearts, we bid adieu to Pinecrest after the 2015 harvest. In the truest of "Swan Song" fashions, Mother Nature gifted Pinecrest with a remarkable grand-finale. Although some pockets of the Okanagan were mired in smoke or plagued by fire in 2015, Pinecrest was tucked away as if protected by a serendipitous force-field. The high-heat of the vintage is brought to harmony with the cooling affect of the site's elevation. The expression of fruit was both opulent & bright, lush & concentrated yet racy. 2015 was conducive to decadence & we embraced it. Hedonism incarnate.
Our final ode to Franco & Pinecrest was fermented/aged for 10 months, entirely in New French Oak puncheons. It remained on Lees for the duration of its lifetime prior to bottling.
As mentioned above, this one exudes both decadence & hedonism, making it a show-stopping candidate for immediate enjoyment. To allow full evolution, let rest through 2025.
