Black Swift Vineyards | Palo Solara Vineyard Pinot Noir

2017 'Palo Solara Vineyard' Pinot Noir

Nesting Place: Palo Solara

Nested in East Kelowna, a phenomenal 8 acre vineyard site planted to Pinot Noir & Riesling. An example of a longstanding bit of our viticultural history. The Pinot Noir blocks speak to 5 of the 8 acres. In regards to positioning, this site sees a relatively steep North-Western aspect/slope & is defined by Sandy loam with ribbons of mineral/gravel deposits throughout. The sloped nature of the site allows for optimal sun exposure. In synergy with the nuances of Pinot, Morel Mushrooms litter the ground seasonally. Planted to Pinot clones deemed best suited to the location (667,777). The vineyard is sustainably farmed with minimal environmental impact.

The Wine & Moment in Time:

Hatched of the 2017 vintage, the 2nd showcase of the vineyard by name. By nature, the 2017 vintage was supernaturally long & came to a swift close with snowfall almost immediately after harvest. The vineyard site, amplified by extended hangtime has bred a slightly more extracted & savoury expression of Pinot. Whilst still showcasing tart Red Fruit character at the forefront, the earthen dynamics & herbal edges titillate from the periphery. Pinot Noir has a spiciness to it inherently, slightly higher percentages of alcohol amplify that existing character.

This vintage received a formal education & evolution over 19 months in neutral French Oak.

Depending on preference, the '17 Palo is drinking superbly in the moment, if it's the fruit you seek. If intrigued by a more subtle bit of elegance, drink through 2027.
