2017 'Palo Solara Vineyard' Pinot Noir
About the land: Palo Solara is a sustainably farmed, 8 acre vineyard located in the heart of the East Kelowna bench with 5 of those acres dedicated to growing Pinot Noir. This sub-region we feel grows some of the best Pinot fruit in the valley due to its optimal conditions. The soil is a deep, sandy loam. Morel mushrooms litter the ground in the spring, and vultures and eagles that take up house in the properties around it. Yields are kept at a maximum of 2.5 tonnes per acre.
About the Wine: This singular site required minimal intervention in the cellar and this wine was an easy transition from grapes. Destemmed and cold-soaked on arrival, then fermented in stainless for 28 days with thrice daily pump overs, the wine was then aged in decades old foundres for a full two years. This wine has kept its purity of location while taking on a brambly and wonderfully funky and herbal edge to it.
