2017 'Melville Vineyard' Chardonnay
Nesting Place: Melville Vineyard
A truly miniscule 1/2 acre of exceptional Chardonnay, planted on the shores of Okanagan Lake betwixt Peachland & Summerland. This vineyard site is dedicated to the production of hyper-focused & complex expressions of Chardonnay. Defined by a composition of ancient lacustrine soil with intermittent mineral/gravel deposits from erosion of the imposing mountainside above. A microclimate born of sloping position & cooler temperatures moderated by the lake. The vineyard was named after George Melville of the esteemed Melville Family, who have been an integral part in our evolution.
The Wine & Moment in Time:
Each vintage hatched of this small & meticulously managed vineyard has been wildly different in nature of expression. The site breeds Chardonnay with a tightrope of acidity, which serves as a wondrous counterweight to the Oak program. 2017 exists as a dichotomy unto its self; the nose leans towards one direction & the palate another. Caramel, Sourdough Bread & geeky oxidative character dominate the aromatic spectrum whilst the palate is driven with canned Pineapple & ripe Stone-Fruit.
Fermented & Aged over 18 months in 2 Neutral Oak Barrels.
Depending on purpose & curiousity: Imbide now to revel in the fruit, if Oak character & funk are your thing, drink through 2022.
