2015 'Hans Estate' Cabernet Syrah

Born of Hans Estate Vineyard, nested in the majesty of the East Osoyoos Bench. This vineyard is meticulously farmed by the hands of the "Hans" family, the site was planted in 2001 exclusively to Red cultivars. The site is defined by an intensive West-facing slope & deep sand (25 feet in certain locations) based soil structure. This perpetuates concentration & depth of character in the wines grown. Planted just below the revered Occulus block of Mission Hill, which speaks to the pedigree.
The Wine & Moment in Time:
Truly designed to be the culmination of what we feel the South Okanagan does best, our Grand Cru of sorts. This wine was grown in the intensive heat brought forth by 2015, a vintage riddled with challenges due to fire & smoke. Albeit challenging for the collective Valley, this site experienced limited impact of the blazing wildfires. Expressive of both immense power & elegance simultaneously. Composed of equal parts Cabernet Franc & Syrah, designed to allow both varietals time in the spotlight. This wine rolls in waves of expression, driven by characteristics of both Franc & Syrah depending on the moment. Perhaps the most concentrated or fruit dominant offering of the site, this wine masquerades more so like something from our warmer climate American comrades.
Aged for 36 months in equal parts newer & older French and American Oak barrels. Truly expressive of the best of both worlds. Concentrated characteristics of Blackberry Jam, 5 Spice & Tobacco.
Currently is showing with full force & intensity of both Fruit character and structural grip. Another 3 years at minimum should subdue the beast a little, drink through 2027.
