2016 'Stone's Throw Vineyard' Pinot Noir
Nesting Place: Stone's Throw Vineyard
Rooted in the pedigree of the lower Black Sage bench. Stone's Throw is a truly inspirational site for the enigmatic & elusive Jason Parkes. Each drop of vinified liquid born of or poured from this vineyard is in homage & dedication to Ron "The Man" Fournier, who passed away a few years ago. The vineyard is defined by deep layers of glacially deposited Sand & intermittent ribbons of stone/gravel. Planted to a careful clonal selection of Pinot Noir 114,115,667,777, Muscat, Roussanne and Viognier. The slightly lower elevation of the site creates a microclimate suitable to the fickle tendencies of Pinot Noir specifically.
The Wine & Moment in Time:
2016 marks the 3rd vintage of Stone's Throw Pinot Noir by name, although, the grower relationship runs markedly deeper than that as mentioned above. The slow-burning nature of 2016 allows for a more finessed expression of Pinot, in warmer vintages the fruit character can be immensely concentrated. Structurally, the '16 offers tannins with a firm grip balanced by vibrant Red Cherry/Berry-Fruit & a taught backbone of acidity.
To round out the brightness & concentration of the fruit, this wine was aged for 16 months in Neutral French Oak. The intention is round out the structural edges without overwhelming varietal character.
Whilst being presently spectacular & lush, patience is certainly a worthy virtue with this highly promising offering. Drink now through 2026.
