2014 'Stone's Throw Vineyard' Pinot Noir

2014 'Stone's Throw Vineyard' Pinot Noir

Nesting Place: Stone's Throw Vineyard

Rooted in the pedigree of the lower Black Sage bench. Stone's Throw is a truly inspirational site for the enigmatic & elusive Jason Parkes. Each drop of vinified liquid born of or poured from this vineyard is in homage & dedication to Ron "The Man" Fournier, who passed away a few years ago. The vineyard is defined by deep layers of glacially deposited Sand & intermittent ribbons of large stones/gravel. Planted to a careful clonal selection of Pinot Noir 114,115,667,777, Muscat, Roussanne and Viognier. The slightly lower elevation of the site creates a markedly cooler microclimate suitable to the fickle tendencies of Pinot Noir specifically.

The Wine & Moment in Time:

The first release (or re-release in this case) of Stone's Throw by name, although our reverence to the site, grower relationship & its mystifying expressions of Pinot run much deeper. The warmth & consistency of 2014 bred expressions of Pinot more audacious than traditionally expected from the clones planted. Expressive in its youth of structural heft & intensity, now leaning to a more briny, earth-tone focused style. While secondary characteristics lead the charge, the fruit is subtle & superbly intriguing, beguiling even. Upon initial release the '14 was highly encouraging of potential for evolution, it currently stands as proof that that was indeed the case. Cropped for focus at 3 tonnes per acre.

Aged for 16 months in Neutral French Oak puncheons.

While a reasonable bit of patience/cellaring has been demonstrated on our part, lay to rest through 2023 if thusly inclined. If enjoying presently, decant with anticipation.
