2017 'Stone's Throw Vineyard' Pinot Noir
Nesting Place: Stone's Throw Vineyard
Rooted in the pedigree of the lower Black Sage bench. Stone's Throw is a truly inspirational site for the enigmatic & elusive Jason Parkes. Each drop of vinified liquid born of or poured from this vineyard is in homage & dedication to Ron "The Man" Fournier, who passed away a few years ago. The vineyard is defined by deep layers of glacially deposited Sand & intermittent ribbons of stone/gravel. Planted to a careful clonal selection of Pinot Noir 114,115,667,777, Muscat, Roussanne and Viognier. The slightly lower elevation of the site creates a microclimate suitable to the fickle tendencies of Pinot Noir specifically.
The Wine & Moment in Time:
The 2017 vintage brings forward the 4th expression of Stone's Throw Pinot by name, although our reverence to the site & the grower relationship run markedly deeper than that. By nature '17 has bred an expression of wine with much structural tenacity & a bramble fruit laden core. The extended hang-time & overarching magic of the lower Black Sage Bench are evident through this wines slightly more extracted expression. While the fruit is more dominant than most vintages, there is a heavy bit of clove & spice in a supporting role.
Aged for 19 months in Neutral French Oak, allowing for amplification of complexity & structural enrichment.
Freshly released into our Pinot flock, the '17 is showing heaps of youthful exuberance, patience to the tune of 2025 would do a world of justice for balance & intrigue.
