2017 'Monarch Vineyard' Cabernet Merlot
Monarch Vineyards Cabernet Merlot is harvested from a vineyard located in Osoyoos near the east bench. Comprised of clone 181 Merlot (45%) and clone 214 Cabernet Sauvignon (55%).
Colour: Deep red with violet fringe
Aroma: Floral Black Fruit, fresh raspberries, fennel seed
Taste: Full bodied, dark fruit, coffee, and dark chocolate / mocha.
Pairing: Grilled meats, or as a meal unto itself.
Winemaker: Jason Parkes
Winemaker notes: Cab Sauv can be a tough one to get ripe, but Monarch nails it 99% of the time. The Merlot has no problem ripening, we usually have to keep a close eye on the sugar levels, but still put the focus on the proper development. We throw in that one American bbl to try to bring that funky whisky vibe, but it’s only just a hint.
Grape Variety: Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon Blend
Pick Date: October
Vineyard Region: Osoyoos
Vintage Overview: Extremely wet spring with some flooding in certain areas. Fires and smoke throughout the dry, hot summer. Lower yields from many of our vineyards. A later harvest than 2016.
